Directs, through subordinates, coordinates and controls the activities of local, port, long haul and backhaul drivers to meet the requirements of the company, and vendors by providing maximum efficiency within the profit structure of the division. Manages the third-party providers of equipment and personnel. Manages the daily activities of the Transportation Department for the assigned location. Accountable for expense control within the transportation budget.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Manage, through subordinate supervisors, the day-to-day supervision of all local, port, long haul and backhaul drivers to achieve maximum utilization of equipment and personnel.Oversees training programs to ensure employees have the most up to date knowledge for their areas of responsibility. Ensure the training of employees and commercial drivers on work methods, procedures, and safety programs.Forecast staffing requirements, evaluate performance, schedules work assignments, and administer the Company's employee relations policies and procedures.Maintain equipment availability. Works closely with outside vendor and/or Maintenance Department to ensure that equipment is maintained within established standards.Work closely with warehouse management, identify and resolve day-to-day operational problems.Monitor daily operations, both in person and through regular reports, to identify areas for improvement. Reviews and identifies causes of the variances and takes immediate steps to resolve problems.Works closely with supervisors to develop improved operations and implement any necessary changes. Establish priorities and approve recommendations. Take every opportunity to establish and maintain teamwork between shipping, receiving, and inventory control teams.Train and develop transportation employees to maximize productivity and effectiveness. Promotes teamwork, encourages communication, and resolves problems that arise.Ensure that all safety practices are in place as well as accident investigations.Ensure and comply with all DOT regulations, reviews CSA scoring and adopt action plans for improvements needed.Represents the Transportation Department and Company management. Keeps upper management informed of activities, progress, and seeks approval for significant proposed changes in operations.Represent the company in employee complaint resolution, vendor complaints, and commercial carrier complaints.Represent the company in vehicle collision litigation events. Investigate vehicle accidents or near misses and coordinates claims management with the accounting team.Maintain communication with all divisions/departments/subordinates to maintain service level standards.Perform other related and incidental work as required in the completion of assigned tasks.At times, serve as a customer relations point of contact with port, backhaul pick-ups, and commissary, NexComm, AAFES, Hawaii, Exchanges, Dollar General, and Amazon deliveries.Other duties as assignedJob Requirements:

Education: This position requires two to three years of college. In the absence of formal education, significant and directly related work experience may be substituted.

Experience: This position requires five (5-10 years) years of related management experience with a proven track record in transportation-related distribution center experience. Position must also have four or more years of experience in shipping, receiving, or transportation in a grocery distribution center.

Knowledge: Position requires an in-depth knowledge of all warehouse equipment and processes, warehouse management systems, grocery warehouse, and commercial driver DOT regulations. Position requires knowledge of personal computers and associated business software (MS-Word, Excel, and Outlook). Also required P&L, budgets, FMCSA rules and regulations.

Skills and Abilities: Position requires a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of management and staff. Good team building and facilitation skills, demonstrated ability to manage, train, and evaluate subordinate employees and communicate effectively. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with non-negotiable deadlines and always maintain a professional demeanor. Potential weekend and off-hours work and phone calls, depending on operational needs.

Other Qualifications:
Must be able and willing to travel by air or ground to other company locations, up to 40%.Must maintain a CA driver's license in good standing.This is Not a Remote position, must be able to come into the office at the Ontario CA location.
